"The Body"

This post today is about the human body and a unique education experience for the Scholars at Vineville Academy here in Macon, Georgia.  It was my good fortune to be one of several volunteers that helped educate the Scholars at Vineville Academy today.  The Scholars in the Fifth Grade were the participants today.  It is my understanding that the lower grades were involved yesterday, January 27th.

When I arrived I observed this truck which delivered the program materials two days ago so that the education maze could be constructed.  Today was the last day for the education of the Scholars so the Staff of "The Body" was ready to pack up the material after the Fifth Grade Scholars had traveled through the human body.  At each station there was a volunteer that read a script, demonstrated the required materials and questioned the Scholars before they moved on to the next body part.

I was impressed with the attitude and the discipline of the Scholars. There were five to seven Scholars in each group.  It took over an hour and half for all of the fifth grade Scholars to travel through The Body.

The first station was a segment about "The Eyes."

This is the exit display which allowed each of the Scholars to quickly review "The Body" parts and organs that they had just visited.

As I indicated above, the Scholars received the information and were very interested in program.  It was also a fun adventure for me.  I was the Small Intestine and one of the display material I presented to each group was a rope that was twenty feet long which represented the actual length of that organ in every human body.  The script stated that this organ was contained in the lower body between the hips.  From what I was able to observe from the looks on the Scholars' faces I got the impression that they were amazed on the actual length of this organ.

I would suggest that this was and is an excellent method of teaching Scholars about "The Body."

Today I took the opportunity to visit this new business.  I did learn of it by reading Ed Grisamore's column in The Telegraph.  I met the owner, Aaron and asked his permission to promote his new business with no intent or desire of financial gain for me.  I simply desire to assist in promoting a Macon Business.

This business on New Street, just North of the Emergency Room of the Medical Center of Central Georgia is in a charming structure.

Aaron informed me of the hours of operation which are as follows:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 11:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. 

 Thursday from 11:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.  

He was quick to inform me that he is involved in His Church on Sunday so do not expect him to be open on that day of Worship.

He makes bow ties from materials in stock, or you can bring your own.  The price of a bow tie depends on the style and fabric you choose.  So, what you get is really a custom made bow tie.  

His Mom also has an attractive line of pre-made quilted bags available for anyone to also purchase.  The ones I saw featured a Bow Tie as part of the bag's decoration.

So, no matter your gender, Aaron has merchandise available for you to acquire.  I was impressed with the friendliness and attitude of this young man.

I would suggest that you personally check out this new business and remember that this is also an opportunity to support a local Macon venture.  It is next door to Roly Poly and there is plenty of parking just South of this establishment.

Macon-Bibb Challenge

I am a member of the Photographic Society of America.  As a member I participate in a Digital Study Group.  The theme for the current participation round is clouds.  I was able to capture this series of images last Saturday evening, January 17, 2015.

I submitted the image that has the notation below it.  Of course I appreciate all the other images, but I appreciated the one I submitted the best.

I am a member of the Photographic Society of
America and there are Study Groups where
one can sign up and receive feedback from
fellow members.  Each Study Group normally has
about six or seven members.  

The images were taken between the hours of 5:13 P.M. through 6:05 P.M.  The images I liked the best was taken at 5:40 P.M.

Fourth Annual Celebration

of

Christian Unity

The first Festival was displayed at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Macon.  This year, the fourth year, the event was celebrated at Vineville Methodist Church at 2045 Vineville Avenue, Macon.

The last two days of the Festival are Monday, January 19th and Tuesday, January 20th.  The hours are from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. on both Monday and Tuesday.

It is my understanding that the 2015 Festival will be celebrated at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Macon.

Please note that I did not caption each individual arrangement.  Also please note that I took several pictures of some of the arrangements.  Enjoy the photographs, however to really appreciate the beauty I would suggest that you visit the Festival.

But You Never Asked!

Today I use a picture of myself taken at the Treaty Oak in Jacksonville, Florida during a USS Ranger (CVA-61) Reunion.  I served in this great Aircraft Carrier from April 18, 1962 through 18 July 1964.

Even during my "Boot Camp" training which was prior to my service and duty on Ranger I was taught to respect and follow orders.  

So, why am I sharing this with you today, you may ask?  I recently heard a Public Radio Broadcast that the Ravens were never asked about any abuse of people which may have been conducted by a Football player on their team.  I learned that the Ravens knew about a recording of this alledged abuse as early as February 2014.  The radio broadcast when on to say that the Leadership of the Ravens were claiming that they were never asked so of course they did not have to report any incidents of possible abuse to the NFL.  

So I am suggesting that it all comes down to respect for authority and doing what is necessary to protect the reputation of the organization.  In this case I get the impression that the Ravens thought they could maintain their reputation by simply not talking about and/or reporting they had a recording of a possible abuse of person/s by one of their players.

Unfortunately that concept did not work.  Some how, some where the incident was leaked or made public by a person or persons unknown to me.  In any regard, we have all heard of this situation in the media in recent months.  

I understand that the situation has even reached the current occupants of our White House.  

What I am saying today is:

• Does any person/s or organization need to be asked about improper activity?
• Is it not everyone's responsibility to report great injustice/s to their fellow people kind once they are aware of such activity?
• What has happened to the concept of "Respect For Our Fellow Peoplekind" among the citizens that dwell on this Earth, or to be specific our fellow citizens of the United States of America?
• Why is it even considered appropriate at any level to attempt to cover up the shortcomings of individuals in our organization/team/religious fellowship/family when such activity is very harmful to fellow human beings?

In summary, we all know of the major efforts of many organizations that even work to achieve decent treatment of the animal species that dwell with us on Planet Earth.  

I submit that any member of the Human Race deserves more respect than any animal on this Planet.  But that may just be my misguided thinking.  Certainly something for each of us Humans to consider.
