On Wednesday, 27 March 2024 My Bride and I visited this establishment to pre-view the plants in preparation for April Garden Club Meetings.  The Nursery is on a dirt road and appears quite quaint.  However the selection of plants and flower pots was impressive.

I was in the plant procurement mode and I acquired two pots and many plants.  Here is a photo of the two pots with planting complete.  The plant selection process was easy because I needed shade loving plants because the deck is mostly in the shade. 

                         

Now for the individual plant selections:

The Tall plant in each pot is Dieffenbachia and here is a view  taken from the top.

The Lime Green plant is a Heuchera also known as a Coral Bell plant.

The final plant is a Rex Begonia.  I chose this because of it's interesting color and to provide more drama to the planting.

The Pots were from Italy and this is the tag!

The Owner of Barnyard Nursery recommended we use this brand of potting soil which is available from ACE Hardware on Riverside Drive here in Macon, Georgia.  It is loose and provides excellent drainage for the plants I selected.

In conclusion I am a very happy customer of Barnyard Nursery and looking forward to the Garden Club Visit in April.

Tea and Flower Arrangement

Demonstration 

Jonathan Mayer of Lawrence Mayer Florist of Macon, Georgia conducted an Arrangment Workshop as part of the March 18th Tea at Saint Joseph Catholic Church.

During the course of the Demonstration Jonathan received many questions and he promptly answered each!

The First One called a "Tropical"

I enjoyed the "Tea" and the "Arrangement Workshop!"  Following is a summary of points that Jonathan shared with us and I needed to learn:

Strive for a balanced arrangement.

Include some bright flowers - one is often enough.

Double tulips are better looking/lasting than single blooms.

Tall Arrangements are more sophisticated.

Round Flowers contribute to a more casual look.

Not a hard rule - but usually an odd number of spikes is better.

For green spikes - Bells of Ireland .

The style/color of the container can set the mood.

Tropical Blooms last longer.

Keep the water in the container fresh.  Change it often, like every two days.

Adding a small spoon of bleach controls the bacteria in the water

so the blooms last longer.  Of course use a bit more bleach in a larger container.

The critical summary for Me is to share the flowers you have growing in your garden and even make arrangements for your personal enjoyment as often as you can!!

In Macon, Georgia

The first 8 Festivals were held in the Middle of January.  The concept was to celebrate the Unity aspect of our Society here in Macon, Georgia during a time of the year when there was not much to celebrate.  Christmas was over and there was no event in January.  The Old City Focus was that the host Church had to be in Macon at least 100 years.  It was and still is promoted as an “Event of interfaith unity!”  The 2024 Festival was held the first week-end of the Cherry Blossom Festival.
