Alan's History

1966 Continued

Several days ago  Posted images on Facebook about My Visit to Iowa pior to My assignment to the Staff, U. S. Naval Forces, Europe in London. England.

After the visit to Iowa we traveled to the Saint Paul area to visit with My Wife's Family.  During our stay there a reception was held.

Here I am on the right with My Wife and I each holding a child from Her
Brother John's Family.

The Lady in front is Katharine (Schnittger) Burger,
My Wife's Grandmother!!

I took this picture of My Father-in-Law, John D. Burger
and My Wife's Brother Thomas.  I wish I had written down the name
of the Man on the left, but I do remember that
he swam away from the USS Yorktown (CV-5).
The Yorktown was involved in the Battle at Midway and
several days later the crippled Yorktown sank on 7 June 1942.  This Sailor unknown to me swam away!

U. S. Supreme Court

September 2020 - A New Justice has been nominated.  Many are concerned about the Confirmation process for the new Associate Justice.  I have studied this situation and recall with great clarity the process concerning the Approval of a Chief Justice back in 1969.  Warren Burger was nominated and his Confirmation Hearing started on 23 May 1969.  The U. S. Senate Confirmed Warren Burger as the Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court on 9 June 1969.  It did not take long for this confirmation and this was for the Chief Justice.  However I must also suggest that our U. S. Senate most likely had more Senators who we would consider "Statesmen" and "Stateswomen" than we do today,  As I conducted a review of this title I learned:

A Female or Male political leader regarded as a disinterested promoter of the public good.

Unfortunately I think we have far too many Senators who do not fit this definition.

Now regarding the current nominee for an Associate Justice,  Amy Coney Barrett I quote this article by Gerard M. Nadal:
September 26 at 10:47 PM

Some of the attacks already in circulation:
"A mother of seven cannot raise her family AND serve well on the Supreme Court."
Well, if the Dems press home that attack they will have gutted 55 years of the Feminist Gospel, and made the case for stay-at-home mothers. We would need to take stock of all the Democrat legislators and judges in the country with children and suggest that they take their leave--for the good of their children.
"She's Catholic. Really, REALLY Catholic," says Bill Maher.
Well, Biden and Pelosi have styled themselves as "Devout Catholics." That means Barrett's practice of her faith, when juxtaposed with Biden and Pelosi's, reveals the latter two as scam artists. Or else it says that only Democrats can be devout Catholics and serve in office.
"She had no business adopting kids from Haiti."
Why? Pro-abort Dems have been telling us for years that the true measure of authentic pro-life is to care for babies AFTER they are born as well as before---by adopting.
"She is part of a Pentecostal cult in the Catholic Church that talk in tongues."
Attention all black, Democrat Pentecostals. Your party just rendered a verdict on your faith.
"She considers herself a "handmaiden'."
Yes, a la the Blessed Mother in her surrender to God. But look at who's going to be sitting on the highest court in the land, and not her husband.
No, friends. They can't possibly turn her positives into negatives without losing the independent voters and more blacks in the election mere days away from the hearings. They will have to tackle her on the merits, and therein lies the problem.
They lack the intellect to try and convince the American people that her time on the bench has been radical and dangerous. She is everything most Americans would love for their daughters to become: Faithful, family-oriented, educated, sharp, loving, and successful.
The best strategy for the Dems and Team Biden would be collegiality on this one, using sincerity as a tactic to not alienate voters. Concede defeat, scream about Trump and overreach and hope it gins up the base.
That's the best they can hope for."

As a proud citizen of these United States of America I concur with Mr. Naadal's comment. It is my suggestion that as our Senate starts the Confirmation Hearings that they remember that they are Stateswomen and Statesmen elected to serve us, "We The People" for the Public Good of Us All. Thank You!!!!

We Remember

The 2020 Elections will soon happen.  We here in Macon-Bibb are fortunate that our Leaders are Planning ahead.  It has been suggested that we will see Voters perform their civic duties in numbers that we have not experienced in recent history.  This Is Wonderful.

As I prepared for this post recalled an event from November 10th, 2012 when the Community and many from far away places dedicated a Monument to Macon's only Medal of Honor Hero - Rodney Maxwell Davis,  a United States Marine who gave his life to save His Fellow Marines during the Vietnam War.  If I recall correctly this event was held on a Saturday and noticeable absent were many elected Macon Officials.

Here are a few pictures from that day:

I suggest that it is certainly fitting and proper that Our Macon-Bibb Officials prepare for the 2020 Elections.  First be providing the funds to the Board of Elections and to also Thank Our Election Board by having two additional Early Voting sites.  We certainly have a tradition to uphold and to also Honor our Own Rodney Maxwell Davis, U. S. Marine who, along with other Heroes has Served our USA so that we may Vote and continue to look forward to our Freedom, Liberty and Happiness.

The following information copied and printed in "blue" from a GPB Website is Germane:

The board did approve two auxiliary early voting sites in addition to the Board of Elections at 2525 Pio Nono Ave.

Voters from all over the county will now be able to cast ballots at the Elaine Lucas Senior Center at Carolyn Crayton Park near downtown and the Theron Ussery Recreation Center off Wimbish Road in North Macon.

Early voting begins Oct. 12.

“Congratulations. City of Macon is in the 21st Century and we have two early voting locations,” Kaplan said.

He thanked the Macon-Bibb County government for supporting the expansion and approving an additional $427,251 to cover the cost of new voting machines for those locations.

The county also has agreed to put an additional absentee ballot drop box on the Mulberry Street side of the Bibb County Courthouse.

Please remember that Early Voting starts on Monday October 12, 2020 so that you can vote in person.  Election Day is Tuesday, November 3rd, 2020 if you desire to vote on the day set aside.

We have a lot to be Thankful For.  We simply must also exercise our Right to Vote!!

Downtown Macon Development!

Recently learned that a proposed project for downtown Macon may not happen because of the current pandemic.

This graphic was copied from a "Center for Collaborative
Journalism" news article.

The reason stated for the delay or possibly the non-development of this Project was reported as indicated above.

Admittedly I was not in life back in the Era of the Great Depression of the 1930s however as a child I heard from My Now Sainted Parents and even my Grandparents how this country endured these challenging times, however they did not give up on planning and even construction projects that would have major impact on the future.

Two construction projects that come to my mind are:
  1. The Empire State Building in New York City.  Constructed in the 1930-1931 time frame.  Even completed one month ahead of schedule.
  2. The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.  Constructed in the 1933-1937 time frame.
The purpose of this post is to simply point our that our forebears had confidence in our Future.  Maybe that is missing in our Developers and even the Citizens of 2020 who do not have hope for the future.  This is a shame because I believe that we are selling ourselves short. You and I all have heard the impact to our Society if we Fail to Plan for the Future.  From my point of view, we are failing to plan and even execute projects that will have a great impact on our City, our State and even our Nation.  Just consider what the impact of the construction of the Empire State Building and the Golden Gate Bridge has done for our USA.

Current Events

Recently we all have heard and seen how our Two Presidential Candidates are seeking Votes among the Hispanic Voters and the African- American Voters.

I saw this sign a few days ago and I captured a picture.  I am not a Political Consultant, however I am a proud American that certainly believes that we are all endowed by our Creator to enjoy a life of Freedom, Liberty and Happiness.

Additionally I know that the majority of Hispanic Voters are of the Roman Catholic Faith.  You and I know that members of this Faith do not support or participate in abortion.  So, do you seriously think that our Fellow Voters, the Hispanics will even vote for a Candidate who has openly supported Abortions.   Additionally this same candidate has a running mate who also supports Abortions as a right for Females.

Now, as the above political sign indicates many African-American Females are currently having abortions.  This is just so sad.  There are those among us that remind us that abortion/s are not prevented by Our God in Holy Scripture.  I would be quick to point out that this is not quite the situation.  We have a Commandant from God that simply states:  "Thou Shall Not Kill."  Admittedly, if you do not believe that life does not begin at Conception an abortion is O.K.  For those who believe life begins at Conception God's command prevents abortion.  Now, before you all get upset, I know that I am a Sinner.  We all are!!  Even one of our Former Presidents stated that even lusting after a Woman is a sin against God's Command:  "Thou Shall Not Commit Adultery."  A Sin is a Sin!  That fact we all acknowledge.
