Downtown Macon Development!

Recently learned that a proposed project for downtown Macon may not happen because of the current pandemic.

This graphic was copied from a "Center for Collaborative
Journalism" news article.

The reason stated for the delay or possibly the non-development of this Project was reported as indicated above.

Admittedly I was not in life back in the Era of the Great Depression of the 1930s however as a child I heard from My Now Sainted Parents and even my Grandparents how this country endured these challenging times, however they did not give up on planning and even construction projects that would have major impact on the future.

Two construction projects that come to my mind are:
  1. The Empire State Building in New York City.  Constructed in the 1930-1931 time frame.  Even completed one month ahead of schedule.
  2. The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.  Constructed in the 1933-1937 time frame.
The purpose of this post is to simply point our that our forebears had confidence in our Future.  Maybe that is missing in our Developers and even the Citizens of 2020 who do not have hope for the future.  This is a shame because I believe that we are selling ourselves short. You and I all have heard the impact to our Society if we Fail to Plan for the Future.  From my point of view, we are failing to plan and even execute projects that will have a great impact on our City, our State and even our Nation.  Just consider what the impact of the construction of the Empire State Building and the Golden Gate Bridge has done for our USA.
