An Interesting Reason

on

Why I Should Vote

for

a Specific Candidate!

Recently I observed a Georgia U. S. Senate Candidate's Commercial on why I should vote for a specific individual!

Our former President was suggesting that I should vote for a candidate simply because he would listen to the "Doctors" when it came to working to cure the current Covid-19 Pandemic.  This particular candidate has a spouse who is a Doctor.  What this former President did not tell us is that the Doctor in this situation is a GYN specialist.  I have nothing but respect for this specialty, however I would suggest that consulting a Doctor who is a gynecologist for advice on Covid-19 treatment or prevention may not be all that appropriate.  As I understand it, a gynecologist is a doctor who specializes in women's reproductive health.

I hope that I do not become a Covid-19 patient, but if that should happen I would seek the care from a Doctor who is well versed in treatment of a male.  I would like to point out now that this is the type of body I have, although not as presentable as this Statue of David:

Therefore I will ignore our former President's Campaigning comment regarding on who I should vote for in the upcoming Georgia U. S. Senate run-off election which is 5 January 2021.

In conclusion as I post this I would urge all Fellow Georgians to research the background of each candidate via trustworthy sites rather than just listening the plethora of Media Ads that we are currently being exposed to on an hourly basis.  Additionally, the U. S. Postal Service must surely be able make up for any budget shortfall as they fill my mailbox with all the printed Campaign Literature that is being delivered on a daily basis.

In summary, the next few weeks should be very interesting!!!

Cry, Cry, Cry and Cry

Some More!!

The other evening I was viewing the Evening News.  The focus on the problems on distributing the Vaccine for the Covid-19 treatments/prevention caused the Anchor to express concern about how this would be accomplished in a timely and effective manner.  Not a very positive message which caused me to develop the title for this post.

However, I quickly recalled on how our United States of America reacted after the Attack on Pearl Harbor which happened on 7 December 1941.  Our Citizens and our Leaders  at all levels worked together to Win World War II.  We build ships, airplanes and tanks as well as trained our Soldiers, Marines, Coast Guard People and our Sailors to do their task using the basic concept of teamwork.  I even recall how us Post Toddler Farm Kids were able to pick milkweed pods for the fibre so that life vests could be produced.

We even build Ocean worthy Ships to transport troops across the Seas to Europe, Africa and the Far East.  I have heard that we launched as many as three ships a day.  Some were consstructed on the East Coast and some on the West Coast.

Some of us have heard of "Rosie the Riveter" who worked in the ShipYards to replace males who were needed in the Military.

This all happened in the early 1940s without all of the technology we have today.  Yet our Citizens did it.  We had the famous "Manhatten" project which helped end the War.  Some may say many lives lost, but the facts are clear that if the War had continued many more lives would have been lost.

So today, December 2, 2020 we have those among us who question the ability of our United States of America to effectively transport Covid-19 Vaccine in a rapid and efficient manner.  I submit that it can be done!  What we do not need is our Media to tell us that it can not be done.  We have done far more complex task in our Past and with the tools we now have at our disposal now, today, I would submit that when we learn to work as a Team for the Good of All Peoples we can accomplish what some among us consider to be impossible.

So stop the crying.  No need for that.  Simply develope a positive attitude and remember what we have accomplished in our Nation's Past and expect our Citizens and Leaders to now work together as a Team!!!   I say it can and must be done!!

 Navy Deployment Shopping

USS Sellers (DDG-11) 1971 Mediterranean Cruise.  I was a YN1.

We were homeported in Charleston, S.C. and during the deployment I used the opportunity o conduct some onboard shopping.  The Armed Forces Exchange System had a list of approved Vendors who would visit ships and sell merchandise to the Sailors.  Some would be delivered while inport and some would be shipped to an address in the USA depending what was purchased.

During one port visit a Shipmate ordered a custom tailored leather trousers for $150.00 which was to be delivered on the morning of our departure.  Unfortunately the Sailor had spend his funds on Liberty so the Vendor was looking for anyone to purchase the trousers at the reduced price of $75.00.  Fortunately I had the same body profile and the cash so I purchased them.

I also purchased a set of china and crystal as well as a set of stainless steel flatware.  This was shipped to me and arrived after I returned to Charleston.

This is just one square of a corn husk floor matt which I purchased and took delivery before we left port.  There are fifteen squares in this, five squares long and three squares wide.  I do not recall what  paid for this, however I suspect that it was a great value.

While we were in Athens, Greece I frequently went on Liberty and visited the Daphne Wine Festival.  We were in port for 30 days during September and also anchored out in the harbor.  So we had to catch the Liberty Launch to return to the ship.  This was a 26 foot Motor Whale Boat.  However at the Fleet Landing there was a Merchant who sold urns to us Sailors.  The price always was $5.00 cash.  I ended up purchasing a total of five.  The two shown here are what I have left.  Two were given away and was broken.  I was able to store these urns in the Commodore's Shower for the Trip back to Charleston.  We did not have an embarked Staff for this trip.

In summary I think I enjoyed the shopping opportunities I had while on this Cruise as part of the U. S. Sixth Fleet.

USS Hull (DD-945.  1978 Western Pacific Cruise.  I was a YNC.  The Hull was homeported in San Diego, CA.  I purchased the following and took delivery while on the Cruise so there was no waiting for the shipments to arrive once back in the USA.

The USS Hull had a proto type eight inch gun for test and evaluation while I served in her!!

This was the WestPac Gift that I purchased for My Wife.

This is a reproduction of the "Flying Cloud" of 1869.

The U. S. Navy Exchange in Subic Bay, the Philippines had a great selection of Hand Made Wicker Furniture.  I was able to purchase ten items for less than $225.00.  The Exchange delivered it to the ship in a Sunday afternoon just before we departed to return to CONUS (Continental United States).  I was able to put this in the Captain's Sea Cabin just behind the Bridge for the return trip Home.  The Captain never used the Sea Cabin and I hoped that we would not go to War so my Stash of Wicker would go undetected.  The Officers were all at the Club for a Party and the Wicker was loaded onboard undetected by any Officers assigned to Hull.  The Wicker traveled well and once we returned to San Diego it was offloaded while we were pier side during the Afternoon we returned.  Once again, there were no Officers on Board.  Some Chiefs and a few  Sailors assisted me and I was able to get all this WestPac loot to our Home in South San Diego with one pickup load.  It was a large load, yet light weight, but well secured with ropes which I most likely borrowed from the Hull.

Again, a Navy Cruise with plenty of shopping opportunities which I enjoyed!!

I post this today, 9 November 2020 to point out the excellent opportunities that we who serve in our Nation's Military have to shop overseas while on deployments.  The separations were a challenge, but there is some reward!!

We Remember in Bibb County

Georgia

As we look forward to observing Veterans Day 2020 I took the opportunity to visit a very simple, yet timely site on the Dixie Highway, which we know as Highway 41 from Macon to Bolingbroke, Georgia.  These six markers are between Broadleaf Drive and Fairmont Drive less than one mile Northwest of the Bass/Foster Road intersection with Highway 41.  The most recognized landmark is Martha Bowman United Methodist Church.   As you travel to Bolingbroke these special markers are on the right side of the road.  In order to learn about the orgin of these markers I conducted some research.  Here is what I found:

Memorial Day and the Dixie Highway Road of Rememberance
A remnant of the Road of Remembrance is located on US 19/41(Forsyth Road) just north of downtown Macon. These memorial markers were installed by the Dixie Highway Women's Auxiliary of Bibb County in 1927 to honor the veterans of World War I. Memorials placed along Houston Road, south of Macon, were later removed during roadwork and are now housed in the Porter-Ellis Community Center.

Here are several pictures that I took today, November 8th as I prepared to make this post.  I was able to get close up photos of each Heroes Plaque on these marker post which were appropriately honored with a small U. S. Flag. You will be able to read the names and the organization of each Hero.

I do not know who places the Flags on these Markers, however a Thank You is appropriate.  "Thank You."
I think You can click on each photo and view it in a larger format.

I suggest that you take the short trip out U. S. Highway 41 and view this emotional tribute for yourself.

 Remember!

For more than ten years I have visited this Cemetery in Crawford County, Georgia.  It is a small one just West of Highway Marker 6 on U. S. Highway 80  This is also West of Roberta, Georgia.  The Mailbox across the street indicates that it is 4333 U. S. Highway 80.  During My visit today I observed a new Marker:

You an quickly determine that Young Samuel served in the Confederate State of America Army.  The inscription on the Marker reads:
Samuel A Kendrick
CO. E.
6 GA INF
C.S.A.
1842 -1862

There is also one more Marker in this Cemetery that looks like this:

The edge of the Marker indicates 1847 - 1924.

Prior to publishing this Post I conducted some research and found this on the U. S. Senate Page:

Civil War Veterans in the Senate

In the years following the Civil War, more than 150 Union and Confederate veterans served as United States senators, helping to chart the nation’s course well into the 20th century.

The last Union veteran, and the last Civil War veteran, to serve in the United States Senate was Francis E. Warren of Wyoming. Warren earned the Congressional Medal of Honor for disabling a Confederate artillery as a young soldier at the 1863 Seige of Port Hudson, La. In 1890 he became one of Wyoming’s first two senators. Warren is credited as being the first senator to hire a woman to a professional Senate staff position, as well as the first senator to hire an African American to the Senate’s professional staff. He was the Senate’s longest-serving member when he died in office in 1929, at age 85.

Charles S. Thomas of Colorado was the last Confederate veteran to serve in the Senate. Born in Georgia, he served briefly as a teenager in the Confederate Army. He settled in Denver after the war, where he built a law practice and pursued a Senate career. Following three failed attempts to gain a Senate seat, the 63-year-old Thomas finally became a U.S. senator in 1913, a position he held until 1921. During his years in the Senate, Thomas became known for a rather unconventional habit that marked the arrival of springtime in the Senate Chamber.

I share this information simply to inform the readers here that these individuals were allowed to serve their country after the Civil War.

Here are a few more pictures of this Cemetery which according to the Right of Way Markers is about 50 feet wide and about 150 feet long.  There are only two markers that I could see.

Do We in the USA live in a Democracy?

The inspiration for this post was a recent broadcast I listened to where our Democracy needs to be ready for ever changing moral standards and being flexible to meet the needs of our current Society.  A true Democracy reflects the will of the Majority.  Unfortunately, while this sounds great in concept there are those who really feel that the Will of the People is the real purpose of our Society today.  Some even feel that our basic document – The Constitution – is a Living Document and must be altered to agree with the majority.  I suspect that the recent broadcast I heard was but one point of vies as our U. S. Senate commences the Hearings on the pending Supreme Court Justice tomorrow, October 12, 2020.  I know that my own concept as I learned in the same one Room Country School discussed in the following quote from my facebook post of a few minutes ago is that our Supreme Court is charged with understanding the Constitution and the application to situations that are brought an accepted by that same court.  The Court does not need to comply with the will of the majority.  They are charged with insuring that the provisions of our Constitution are adhered to.

The Judicial Branch is not in the business of making laws.  You and I learned that our U. S. Senate and House of Representatives make the Laws.  A definite separation of “Power!!!”

I often hear esteemed Journalist and Peers discuss our U.S.A. as a Democracy. Certainly sounds great. However the education I received in a "One Room Country School" many years ago stressed the fact that we all enjoy and live in a "Republic!"

Just in case you do not understand this concept please review the following:

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

I Pledge allegiance to our Flag and to the Republic when I recite this Pledge. For additional background on Alan please be aware that I am proud of my U. S. Navy Heritage and also look forward to living in the U.S.A. - The Republic!!!

Eradicating Victimhood

Once Again we are in the season where those who desire to be elected to office in our Country at many levels of government are attempting to make us feel that we are victims.  While this may be true for us all we can also make some choices that at least reduce our future suffering.

I usually begin My day with this prayer!  Now so you can know who is composing this Post I will include a picture here:

In addition to Political commercials we are daily exposed to a plethora of commercials that tell us about the many options available to treat or even cure what ever may be troubling us as regards our health!

As I contemplated this post I as stated above that about what I can buy as indicated on these commercials to cover not only medical issues, security concerns, safety concerns, etc. to cause me to purchase a plethora of products.

From my point of of view I must, of course be concerned, however I must consider my assets as well as to what I can accomplish in my own life.

For someone my age it is imperative to stay as healthy as I can.  I have had the series of shots for Shingles, Prevnar 13 and the annual flu shot.  For the readers here please seek the Medical information from Your Health Care Specialist.  The previously mentioned shots are available at the pharmacy where you acquire your drugs so it is not difficult to get shot/s each year.

Now, if you do not have a "Health Care Specialist" yesterday was the best time to establish a relationship with a "Family Physician" in Your community.

Next, if you are a male please consider the annual physical where you get checked with the "Finger Wave" to insure your prostrate health and even a PSA test which is checked by taking a blood sample out of your body!

For years I have had the Colonoscopy Exam as determined by a Medical Specialist.  This is an invasive procedure where thy make a movie of your lower intestine for evaluation.  They are looking for polyps which can be detected and removed to keep colon cancer at bay.

I digress here to point out that the Movie Star, Chadwick Boseman, who recently died from the impact of Colon Cancer.  This shocked us all.  Without going into detail about when you should first be checked for this Cancer, please know that Chadwick was first diagnosed at the age of 39.  So, again I urge you to seek Medical guidance as to when you should start being screened for this Cancer.

Now, my last, but even more critical concern.  How are we doing as a Society to keep our next generations healthy?  The best way to insure this using the current Medical Advice is to get the shots suggested to insure their potential for a Healthy Life.  Sure we have our children get their shots when they are quite young so that they are ready to addend school.  But more recent shots have been developed that may also assist in having our Young People safe from future problems!

Almost every day I view information about HPV Shots.  I also hear a lot about meningitis shots.  As always, it is imperative to obtain Medical Advise prior to getting our Young People shot.

Now to be fair concerning the Majority of our Society.  Note that I have not discussed "Females!"  I am concerned about their Health, however I do not have personal, with my own body knowledge, about the complications of this gender.  Again, seek the advise of your Health Care Specialist.

For those who may think that I have the funds to accomplish the advice and shots, please be aware that at an early age I made a choice.  I served in our U. S. Military and learned about caring for my body with reenlistment physicals and now having the age that allows me to participate in Medicare as well as Tri-Care for Life.   So it is imperative for all to make the right choice/s in life!  Besides that, Health Care and Mental Wellness precautions are more appropriate than the alternative.

I tis one thing to have  a Family Member or a Friend die when they are old, but to see a Child or even a Young Adult die because they have not been treated/given the shots  must be Heart Breaking.  I have not yet had this happen in My Personal Life.  I have lived through accidents that took a Young Person's Life.  Now to qualify what I mean by "Young Adult" I would say that is anyone who is more than ten years younger than I.  So as I conclude this segment of this long post,  parents, do what is only right and proper for Your Kids.  Encourage other parents of your kids friends to also get the proper care for their own kids.  Of course I must state again, always seeking the advise of the Health care Specialist  as regards HPV and Meningitis shots as well as any other health care concern/s!

Then when you have done your best as regards a long and healthy life here on Earth, please give very serious consideration of where you and your respective family will spend eternity!

My own Mother as she was being prepared for a leg amputation asked on of the Medical Staff - Do You Know Jesus?  A critical question for us all.

Then in addition to knowing Jesus one must believe as we are informed in the Bible - "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and You Shall be Saved!"  During His time here on Earth, Jesus established the "Lord's Super" with the imperative statement many have heard - "Do This in Remembrance of Me!"

In Summary:
  1. Know Jesus!
  2. Believe in Jesus!
  3. Do as Told!
Now prior to you thinking that I am better than any here on earth, please know that I am a Sinner and fall short of God's Glory on a daily basis.  My Parents when I was younger often reminded me of that fact.  Now that I am an Adult I have peers that also remind me of that fact .

However I care enough to write this and to also post this which You my think is confrontational on my part!  As a caring person I think I and all others have a duty to challenge and even confront our fellow peoplekind.  Not in an evil way, but as a genuine caring person.

If this upset/s you I may have served a purpose in your life.  In short if the shoe fits wear it.  It is your task to take appropriate action.  Conversely you also have a duty to confront me!

I know that when I accept responsibility for my own actions and accept the consequences I am now no longer a victim.

Now I can appreciate my situation.  I would here suggest that You and all other Peoplekind can do the same.

This tombstone marks where the earthly remains of My Parents were buried.

I take this opportunity to Thank My Dad and Mom because they explained to Me the Great Plan that God had for Me.  The Plan that insures Eternal Life in Heaven.   This happened when I was quite young and now at My more mature age I greatly appreciate their concern and efforts

Thank You Jesus, Mom and Dad.  Your Love made this Post possible.  I care and I share!!
