Salt Water and U. S. Navy Ships

The Ships of the U. S. Navy, like those ships of other Navies operate in Salt Water. Now we all know that salt water sea spray and metal do not get along. Metal will rust when exposed to water and salt water makes the rusting process just that much faster. Therefore any Sailor in any Navy is constantly battling rust. This picture shows a Seaman assigned to the USS John S. McCain (DDG-56) masking a capstan in preparation for a new coat of paint. A never ending battle, but one that is necessary to keep the ships of any Navy in tip top shape.
