USS Ranger (CV-4) Commissioned
The USS Ranger was the first true Aircraft Carrier built for the U. S. Navy. This carrier was constructed as a carrier from the keel up. She was commissioned in 1933. Note the straight deck. This configeration prevented the launch and recovery of aircraft at the same time. Newer carriers featured the angled deck which did allow launch and recovery at the same time. As you may know the Flower Child served in the USS Ranger (CVA-61), which was the third Carrier in the Forrestal Class of Carriers constructed by the U. S. Navy.
