"Fired Works"

This exhibit of pottery is currently available for viewing in the Round Building, Central City Park, Macon, Georgia. The Flower Child visited the exhibit on Sunday, April 22, 2007 and even learned a few things. For instance, most of the pottery in the Southeast United States was fabricated near the Fall Line. Why, because the clay used was found near the Fall Line. As our Country was populated during the 1800s the potters generally moved West to be at the forefront of where the people were moving to. Thus the West ward movement. Locally, Crawford County, Georgia was the site for a vast number of potters. Of course, in this era, the potters fabricated items for the storage and preparation of food. I did not calculate the percentages, but a large number of the items on display at the Fired Works Show were for display and were considered art. No matter your interest, useful or artful pottery, the Fired Works Show is impressive. I enjoyed my Sunday afternoon.
